unit 7 review {BLHFHG}

Week 7

Bible verse: Psalm 119:9-11

Monday was a really rough day for all of us. I didn't get enough sleep and my poor kids had to suffer because of my grumpy-ness. However, we learned the steps it takes to turn wool into cloth. Here is Thomas {on Tuesday} trying to remember the order....he got them all right!!

We had a MUCH better day on Tuesday. I dropped Sarah off at preschool and we came home and worked really hard until it was time to pick her back up. We learned that the Pilgrims wanted their children to speak English and remember the English ways {because they were "turning" Dutch} and they also wanted to have farms and land of their own {they were working in mills}. So, they decided to move to America.

We learned a few Dutch words:
yes {ja}
no {nr}
love {liefde}
good-bye {vaarwel}
God {God}

Thomas has math drills Monday-Thursday, and so far they have all been addition. This week was his first subtraction drill and he was complaining before it and asking for more time {he has 1 minute, and there are 16 problems}. Well, he was actually finished before the timer went off and he got all 16 right!! {He usually runs out of time and has 1-3 left}. Here he is with his drill =)

Here is one of  the pictures Thomas drew in his Draw Write Now book. It is a little hard to see, but its a horse. I make him work on these 2 days a week, but at his own pace.

 Nathaniel learned that 10 pennies = 10 cent. Here he is playing with pennies and dimes {and acting silly}.

Meet Miles Standish {x2} and his sword "Gideon". The boys enjoyed learning about Miles and how he was given this special sword for saving an old man {a sword maker} and his daughters lives from the cowardly soldiers.

We found Holland on the globe and then we found Virginia, we noticed that the trip from Holland to Virginia was a much longer one than that from England to Holland.

We finished our adventure book early so we borrowed A Lion to Guard Us from the library. The boys are very interested and are begging for more.

On Thursday, we went on a field trip with a church friend to the Science Center .. My boys had fun and said their favorite part was learning about the Rover going to Mars.

Sarah and Hattie playing in the little house. Hattie loves to climb and little chairs, so she was having the time of her life.

Nathaniel watching the electricity following his hands.

 All of us, near the end of the trip and the sun was in our eyes.

Friday was a catch up day, we finished our paperwork on Thursday, but not all of our reading. We learned that the pilgrim women had to hand sew clothes and the children helped make mittens.

Nathaniel is learning to read the long {a} words, and actually picked up on it a lot better than I expected.

The art project for this week was to draw a self portrait {face and shirt}, and add a pocket to the shirt with a Bible verse to go inside the pocket. Nathaniel was very whiny during this and wouldn't participate {he sat and watched}.

 Here is Thomas with his self portrait:

I'm hoping, someway somehow this will be a blessing to someone. I'm excited to share our weekly reviews and show some pictures of  the kids!! Be sure to check out the "curriculum" tab at the top of the page to see what we are using this  year. Im wanting to add more, but right now we really need to start our school day.........
